No matter where you are on your journey—this week, this year, or in this lifetime—I thank you for sharing this space with me.

The light, love, and peace in me recognizes and honors the light, love, and peace in each of you.

Namaste.

Welcome to EatMoveMKE!

Hello Friends and Followers! I welcome you to our new website, which has a fresh face and different name. EatMoveMKE evolved from my original business The Mindful Palate, started in 2014. As I’ve grown and changed, I added a movement component with yoga and meditation. My social media presence was the first to combine these new aspects of wellness into my business name MP: Mindful Palate | Movement Practitioner | Milwaukee Proud, which became a mouthful as I introduced myself more frequently online and in person. Growth and change can be challenging so while it was difficult to part with my original name, my “baby,” and its various permutations, I know that this rebranding creates a stronger identity. Thank you for welcoming this transition with me.

The spring of 2020 has brought huge opportunities for growth and change. When I woke up on January 1, 2020 I certainly didn’t anticipate the wild ride we’d take this year. The COVID-19 pandemic turned our routines upside down. Many of my yoga students felt they’d just gotten into a groove with their practices; many people were just turning a new leaf with healthy eating habits. We were suddenly moved to stay home, lockdown, and reshuffle our lives. I am grateful that my health and the health of my students—as far as I know—has been stable during this unprecedented global health emergency. While I didn’t plan to take my classes online any time soon, this was an opportunity to create new connections. We may have been physically distanced, but socially we continued to come to our mats and our cutting boards to create space for breath and [gluten-free] bread breaking.

I am grateful for the Milwaukee Recreation Department’s support and organizational strengths in keeping us up and running with classes. I am grateful for the new followers who have joined me from beyond the Milwaukee area. I am grateful for the space I’ve had to practice creativity in both movement and cooking. And I am deeply grateful for my loyal students who’ve shown support in so many ways, not the least of which was their patience through technical difficulties and kitchen bloopers. You’ve allowed me to continue growing and being myself, which sustains me in coming more fully into both my home yoga studio and home kitchen spaces to guide you.

This “strange intermission” since mid-March has allowed me to slow down, go slightly inward, get outside more, consider my priorities, reshape my personal movement practice, and return to simple pleasures. Many of you know me as a person who’s always on the go. And while I haven’t stopped moving during this physical distancing chapter—afterall, I’m a kinesthete and need movement in order to process—I have definitely slowed down. I’ve created daily and weekly rituals like walking a block to Lake Michigan each morning with my coffee to take a look and take a deep breath; making time to intentionally prepare a beautiful breakfast each day; making time to sit, eat lunch and read afterwards; blocking off an hour in the afternoon to work on my movement goals and injury defense; spending 1-2 nights per week cooking dinner with my daughter; walking to the lake or around the park with her in the evening, and journaling before bed. I am privileged to have had this space and time. I trimmed away—some by choice, some by order—what seems unnecessary and am taking my time to re-place those aspects of my life. It’s like cleaning my house-- I remove all the items from the table/dresser/shelf/floor, clean all the surfaces and corners then put back only what seems like it’s needed there. It may not be minimalist, but it’s much more tidy. And it’s a work in progress.

Another silver lining during this time is that I’ve been able to redesign and relaunch my website with the guidance of my marketing guru at Dolomite Marketing. I hope that you will find the information, class links, and resources helpful as you continue on your path to personal wellness. Know that I am available to answer questions, customize a yoga practice or cooking class, and help you build your toolbox of mindful breathing exercises. Please say hello. Namaste and Bon Appetit!
